Doris G. Cormier

Breaux Bridge –  It is with great sadness that I share that Doris G. Cormier passed away at her home after an extended illness on Friday, October 6, 2023.

She was 88 years young. She was born on December 12, 1934 to Willie and Lydia Champagne Gardemal. She was married for 58 years to the love of her life, Guilman Cormier on June 15, 1951.

Doris was truly a pioneer for working women.  She began her career in the early 60’s at the Heymann Store Downtown.  She also worked as a supervisor of the bakery at Weingarten’s store in the Oil center. She later worked at John’s Store in Breaux Bridge where she retired in her late 70’s.

She loved fishing with her sister Dot, and traveling to Branson, Hawaii and Las Vegas with her family and friends. She enjoyed the casinos in Louisiana and Biloxi too.

She was an avid reader of fiction novels and loved to entertain family and friends with Guilman.  She was always eager to hear her favorite country music singers and attended her final Brooks and Dunn concert last year with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Castille Scott; her grandchildren, Jason Cormier and his children, Haden and Kadee; Brian Cormier and his son, Corbin; Lynzie Cormier and her daughter Malayne; Kent Cormier (Tobi Lynn) and his children, Kass and Kam; Sanders Castille (Shontelle) and his children, Gabe and Ellie; daughter-in-law, Debbie Cormier; and brother-in-law, Anatole Pete Cormier and his wife Claudia; and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Guilman Cormier; son, Gil Paul Cormier, great-granddaughter, Lyndon; sister, Dorothy Richard (Houston); brother, Willie Gardemal J. (Lois); sons-in-law, Bob Scott and Rocky Castille; father-in-law, Anatole Cormier Sr; mother-in-law, Lita Cormier; sisters-in-law, Janel Dore (Alvin) and Connie Migues (Minos); nephews, Bill and Oliver Gardemal, and Tracy Richard; and her parents, Willie and Lydia Gardemal.

“Death leaves a heartache no one can heal; Love leaves a memory no one can Steal.”

Join us for a memorial service to celebrate Doris’s life on Friday, November, 10th at St. Bernard Church in Breaux Bridge, La.

Visitation 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., rosary at 10 a.m., with service to follow at 10:30 a.m.
