Edward LaViolette

Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m., on Monday, April 15, 2024, at St. Bernard Catholic Church for Edward LaViolette, 85, who passed away on Monday, April 8, 2024, at Landmark of Acadiana Nursing Home.

Visitation took place at the funeral home in Breaux Bridge on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. and continued Monday from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. 

A rosary was recited at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. 

Rev. Garrett McIntyre officiated at the Funeral Mass. Readers were Andrea LaViolette and Morgan LaViolette. Gift bearers were Kennedy LaViolette and Annalise Bates.

Burial followed at St. Michael Mausoleum in St. Martinville.

Ed was born on October 13, 1938, in St. Martinville. Throughout his life, he embraced various careers, including carpentry, sales, newspaper work, and even tried his hand at farming, but found his true calling as a beloved tour guide. His passion for sharing the rich history of the Acadians with others defined his career and brought joy to countless individuals he visited with at Vermilionville and Acadian Memorial.

He cherished the time spent with his family, and his memory will be forever treasured by his family. Ed’s legacy of warmth, kindness, and knowledge will live on in the hearts of all those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his children, Kirk Laviolette (Andrea), Chad Laviolette (Sandy), Mark Laviolette, Joshua Laviolette (Amy), and Suzanne LaViolette; son-in-law, Reid Bates; and his grandchildren, Jordan LaViolette, Morgan LaViolette, Alec LaViolette, Ariel Thibodeaux, Augustus Bates, Emma Bates, Annalise Bates, Jacob LaViolette, Kennedy LaViolette, Caedmon LaViolette, Lucie LaViolette, Peter LaViolette, Adrian LaViolette, and Noah LaViolette. 

He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Baker LaViolette; parents, Augustave and Marie Champagne LaViolette; daughter, Gwen Bates; and one brother, Fred LaViolette.

Pallbearers were Kirk LaViolette, Jordan LaViolette, Chad LaViolette, Jacob LaViolette, Augustus Bates, and Joshua LaViolette.

Honorary pallbearers were Reid Bates and Caedmon LaViolette.

Pellerin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
