Verler Mae LaGrange Gordon

Lafayette – A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 12 p.m. at Cypress Funeral Home in Maurice, La. for Verler Mae LaGrange Gordon, 69, who passed away peacefully at Cornerstone at the Ranch Bethany Rehabilitation in Lafayette on Friday, March 24, 2023.

Pastor James Parker of Embassy Bible Fellowship will officiate.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023, from 9:30 a.m. until service time at Cypress Funeral Home, 206 West Lafayette Street, Maurice. 

Verler Mae LaGrange Gordon was born on February 1, 1954, in Arnaudville and she was a resident of Lafayette. She grew up in Louisiana as a devout Catholic with strong morals and Christian upbringings. She was the 5th of 11 children born to Leopold and Elvina Noel LaGrange. She attended college at the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now ULL) majoring in science.

Verler later moved to California with her first husband, Jackie Joseph Robertson Sr., where she earned an associate degree in liberal arts at Indian Valley College in Novato, California. 

She and Jackie had one son, Jackie Joseph Robertson Jr. She later battled long-lasting emotional challenges, but through it all, she remained spiritually strong and never lost Faith.  Verler continued to put God first. 

She later married Joseph Russell Gordon and had two additional children,  Ranada Renee Gordon and Lance Larson Gordon. 

If you knew Verler Gordon, you’d know how much she touched the lives of everyone around her with her Love, and her impactful heart of kindness and compassion. MANY, more than just her children, called her “Mom.”  

In 2022, she authored and blessed us with “God is Our Keeper, Our Maker, Our Deliverer, Our Redeemer Gospel Songs” book divinely inspired by the Holy Spirit. Through her writings, sharing of her knowledge and experiences, she continued to give all glory and honor to God.

Verler Mae LaGrange Gordon is survived by her spouse of 40 years, Joseph Russell Gordon of Lafayette, La.; two sons, Jackie Joseph Robertson Jr. and Lance Larson Gordon (Magan) of Lafayette, La.; one daughter, Ranada Renee Gordon (Lymarkus Boyd) of Bunkie, La.; five grandchildren, Tarrell Gordon, Camron Gordon, Amiree Renee Boyd, Micah Gordon and Ava Gordon; one brother, Andrew LaGrange (Mary Ann) of Cecilia, La.; six sisters,  Marie Alcimae LaGrange Espree (Joseph) of Cecilia, La., Dorothy LaGrange James of Shreveport, La., Marie Verline LaGrange Broussard of Belle Chase, La., Rose LaGrange Floyd (Cedric) of Kenner, La., Mary Mildred LaGrange Batiste (Hershey) of Lafayette, La., and Barbara LaGrange Offord (John Patrick) of Cecilia, La.  

Verler also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, Godchildren, friends and relatives who will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leopold LaGrange and Elvina Noel LaGrange; as well as one brother, Paul LaGrange; and two sisters,  Helene LaGrange Wright and Redella LaGrange Cousins.
