He and his coworkers at Stuller Manufacturing have a tradition of organizing a pool every time the jackpot hits $1 million.
One of the tickets went into the pool, and he kept the other ticket for himself.
He heard that the winning ticket had been sold at Guidry’s. While eating lunch on Thursday last week, he couldn’t stop thinking about the ticket he had left in his truck. He went out to his truck for the ticket and realized he had won when he matched up the numbers with a printout he had.
It’s still sinking in, but LaGrange says he is “very excited.”
He and two of his three children went to Baton Rouge last week to sign what he called a lot of paperwork. He opted for a lump sum, and he walked away with a check. He said once Uncle Sam got a hold of the money, the lump sum was a good bit less than a million dollars.
He says will use the money to finish refinancing his house so he can settle with his wife, as he is in the midst of a divorce.
He laughs and says he is planning on splurging and buying a lawnmower and a flat screen TV, which he then explained he was planning on buying anyway.
The rest he says he will put in the bank as a “...little cushion for the future”.
