Cecilia – A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 2 p.m., on Thursday, June 28, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, for Clarence “Bloc” Melancon, 85, who passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2012, at Regional Medical Center of Acadiana.

A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

Rev. Donald Pousson officiated at the Funeral Mass. Interment followed at St. Joseph Cemetery.

“Bloc,” as he was affectionately known throughout the community of Cecilia, was retired from St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he worked as the custodian for 42 years. He was a devoted supporter of the Cecilia High School Band and a member of the Band Boosters, as well as a supporter of the school’s athletic programs, his entire life.

“Bloc” enjoyed being outdoors, and loved picking pecans in the fall, and going crabbing. He loved going to Pat’s in Henderson where he could listen to the bands and dance to the music.

“Bloc” led a peaceful and simple life – he was a man of his word, a humble and generous man, devoted to his God, his family, his church parish, and his community. To anyone who would ever ask a favor of him, he could never say “No” – he gave of himself selflessly. Everyone loved “Bloc” and he loved everyone – his love was unconditional and he will be sorrowfully missed by his family, his friends, and his community.

He is survived by his son, Anthony “Tony” Melancon of London, England; two grandsons, Jude Peltier and his wife, Lynsey, of Breaux Bridge, and Raymond Peltier of Cecilia; three sisters, Cecile LeBlanc of Henderson, Rena Mae Guidry of Gonzales, and Marie Patin of Henderson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ignace Melancon and Louise M. Melancon; his beloved wife, Annie Lou Angelle Melancon; his daughter, Susan Michelle M. Peltier; a sister, Rita Blanchard; and two brothers, Bertrand and Dewey Melancon.

Pellerin Funeral Home of Cecilia was in charge of arrangements.
