Noted cardiologist

BATON ROUGE – Services for cardiologist Dr. Harris Lappin will be Monday. He died July 26 at age 68.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and co-founder of Louisiana Cardiology Associates. He performed the first coronary angioplasty in Baton Rouge and was former chief of staff of Baton Rouge General Medical Center. He was one of the original medical directors of Emergency Medical Services.

Survivors include his wife JoAnn and three children.

Equine specialist

BAKER – Services for equine specialist Calvin McKerley will be Tuesday. He died July 24 at age 87.

He was a veteran of World War II and was with the LSU Cooperative Extension Servivce for almost 40 years. He developed the 4-H horse program in Calcasieu Parish which evolved into the state-wide 4-H Horse Program and was the first horse specialist witht he U.S. Agriculture Extension Service. He also owned, bred and raised racehorses.

Survivors include his wife Margaret and three children.

Arrangements are by Charlet.

Donut man

ALEXANDRIA – Services were Sunday for businessman and civic leader Dallas Ed Pebbles. He died July 27 at age 81.

He was owner and operator of Shipley Donuts for many years and a former president of the Greater Alexandria-Pineville Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include his wife Pattie and two sons.

Arrangements were by Kramer.

Water superintendent

ALEXANDRIA – Services will be Tuesday for long-time water superintendent Joseph Despino. He died July 28 at age 92.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and worked for the city for more than 40 years. He was Water Dept. superintendent for seven years.

Survivors include three children.
