St. Martinville – The eighth annual Acadian Memorial Festival is set to begin at 10 a.m. this Saturday, March 17.

This year’s honored families are Bernard and Martin.

The wooden boat parade will begin at 11 a.m. And the crowning of the first Monsieur ou Madame Bateau de Bois will follow immediately after. There will also be a reenactment of the arrival of the Acadians in Louisiana at 1 p.m., followed by an acoustic jam session at 3:30 p.m.

Admission for the celebration is free. The festival celebrates the Acadian culture with music, food, fun, French theater, kids’ activities, demonstrations, lectures and displays of antique wooden boats and cars. Wear your costumes!
