St. Martinville - Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 21, 2011, at Parks Baptist Church, 5140 Main Hwy. (Hwy. 31), St. Martinville, for Murrell Thomas Smith Sr., 74, who was called home by our Lord on Tuesday, January 18, 2011, at his residence.

Interment followed at Methodist Cemetery in St. Martinville.

Brother Rob officiated at the funeral service.

Mr. Smith was a Mason for over 40 years and was a member of the Parks Baptist Church. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening in his free time.

Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Joyce J. Smith of St. Martinville; two sons, Murrell “Tommy” Smith Jr. and his wife Alice of Broussard, and John Edward Smith and his wife Christine of Catahoula; six grandchildren, Brandy Wassmer, Candy Smith, Murrell “Trey” Smith III, Mark A. Smith, Matthew A. Smith and Jackie Moseley; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Mark A. Smith and Kenneth D. Smith; his parents, Oscar J. and Martha Morris Smith; six brothers and two sisters.

Pallbearers were Murrell “Trey” Smith III, Mark A. Smith, Sean Moseley, Peter Wassmer, Dickie Touchet and Daryll Moore.

Honorary pallbearers were Matthew A. Smith and Raymond Latiolais.

Pellerin Funeral Home of St. Martinville was in charge of arrangements.
