My son worked extremely hard on this project and I devoted a lot of time, energy and money into helping him create a good project. I was proud of him and he was excited too!
But guess what?
On the morning of the parish science fair he was told he could not compete because his teacher did not turn in the entry papers by the deadline. There were other SMJH students who could not compete for that same reason. And the same scenario happened last school year. For two years in a row students were disqualified at the parish level for something so simple.
The school system sometimes uses the word “neglect” towards parents. In this case, the teachers were at fault.
Think about it, there are teachers who will blow your phone off the hook with negative comments, behavioral problems, acting out in class, and that’s perfectly fine if a child needs to be disciplined. But what happens to the teacher when they are in the negative seat?
I am sure you can tell I am writing out of anger, but my child’s heart is hurting and my heart hurts too!
St. Martinville Jr. High has a wonderful principal who always has the time to talk to parents. Thank you Mr. Frederick Wiltz – job well done!
To all the deserving teachers, I commend you. Thanks for putting up with my – and everyone else’s – brats. And to the teachers who neglected the important things to focus on the negative stuff – you are sorry losers.
Sorry is not enough and try again next year is not good either.
