Ching Veillon, former principal, dies

Ching Veillon, former principal at Glendale Elementary and biographer of Creole music legend Bois Sec Ardoin, died Thursday. She was 70.

Veillon was Glendale principal from 1986-1999. During her tenure the school was recognized as one of the best elementay schools in the nation.

She had been ill since early this year and died in a Birmingham, Ala., hospital.

Arrangements are under direction of Quirk & Son. Visitation will be on Saturday at a time to be determined.

Funeral services are tentatively scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday at St. Anthony Catholic Church.
