The Town of Rayville has issued a boil advisory for users of its waster system.

A statement issued by the mayor’s office noted that due to problems with the water supply due to lower pressure, the water produced by the town’s water system is of questionable microbiological quality.

The boil advisory is to remain in effect until further notice.

Rayville Water Superintendent Lorenzo Brown recommends that water system customers disinfect their water before using it for making fountain drinks, ice, brushing teeth or using it food preparation or the rinsing of good.

The recommended method for disinfecting the water is to boil it for one full minute in a clean container. The minute starts when the water comes to a roiling boil.

The flat taste this causes can be eliminated by shaking the water in a clean container or pouring it from one clean container to another.

The boil advisory will be lifted when the Office of Public Health’s regional state laboratory finds samples collected from the Rayville water supply to be safe.
