A Eunice man has been charged with cruelty to animals in a case that shocked even the most-grizzled investigating officials.

Nick Watley, 26, of 650 North 2nd St., was arrested Monday in a case that began on February 9 when a complaint was received about a dead animal at the address.

Responding officers and officials were stunned to find the skeletal remains of a dog, its leash and collar still attached.

At the time, the owner denied abusing the animal but it was apparent, officers said, that it had been allowed to die on its leash and then just left there.

Watley was released on $500 bond and will appear in City Court.
