New Iberia – Funeral services were at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, at Pellerin Funeral Home Chapel for Amelie Castille Broussard, 88, who passed away on Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009, in Thibodaux.

Interment followed in St. Joseph Cemetery in Loreauville.

Rev. John Hinton officiated.

Born on Oct. 24, 1921, Mrs. Broussard taught at Hopkins Street School for many years and also Mount Carmel. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters and the sorority KKI. Her passions included children, books, and the elderly.

Survivors include her daughter, Cecilia Harrist and husband Ron of Thibodaux; sister-in-law, Betty Castille of Breaux Bridge; grandchildren, Stephen Harrist and Elizabeth Gavel; great-grandchildren, Greg, Ellen, Kevin, Adlai and Gunnar; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband, Louis D. Broussard; parents, Adolph and Odile Sonnier Castille; brother, Lewis Castille; sister, Oline Babin and husband Wallace.

A rosary was prayed at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
