Belle River – A boating accident claimed the life of an Amelia man Monday evening. According to unconfirmed reports two people were running a fishing line when both of them fell out of the boat.

The victim, Phillip Autin, 55, who was wearing waders failed to resurface. St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office received a call at 9:22 p.m. The accident occurred in Bayou Cheramie near the Assumption Parish line.

Sheriff’s offices from both parishes responded to the accident. The body was recovered at 11:18 p.m. It is believed that the waders may have played a part in the death of Autin.
