St. Martinville – Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2010, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church for Howard Paul Blanchard, 84, who passed away on Thursday, March 18, 2010, at St. Martin Rehab and Nursing Home.

Interment followed at St. Michael Mausoleum.

Fr. Ed Degeyter conducted the services. Reading the scriptures was Sherry Guillotte and Tracy Hebert. His great nieces and nephews serveed as gift bearers.

Mr. Blanchard was a member of Woodman of the World and American Legion in New Iberia. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Air Force.

He loved going to the casino. He was an all around handyman, he was meticulous about everything that surrounded him in his life. Mr. Blanchard was also a true Saints fan.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian Thibodeaux Blanchard of St. Martinville; his nieces and nephews, Donald Thibodeaux Jr., Rhealeen T. Berard, Tracy T. Hebert, Goldie B. Bourque, Weldon Laviolette, Donald Blanchard, Geraldine T. Girouard, Sherry B. Guillotte, Gerry Blanchard, Larry Blanchard, Ray Blanchard, Calvin Boutte Sr., Zerbin Boutte, Paul Boutte, Margarite E. Estillette, Luna B. Melancon, Allen Boutte and Kenneth Chastant.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Anaise Latiolais Blanchard; his brothers, Robin, Rousse and Euclide Blanchard; his sisters, Regina B. Laviolette, Lelia B. Boutte, Lunez Blanchard, Mozella B. Blanchard and Evelyn Blanchard; his nephews, Gary Blanchard, Bob Boutte and Karl Wayne Chastant; and his nieces, Mary Ann B. LeBlanc and Angelle B. Bonin.

Pallbearers were Dustin Ronsonet, Brooke Hebert, Zack Olivier, Corey Blanchard, Ray Blanchard and Donald Thibodeaux Jr.

Honorary pallbearers were Alvin Cormier, Roland Babin, Godfrey Bourque, Larry Blanchard, Calvin Boutte Sr., Allen Estilette, Kenneth Chastant, Weldon Laviolette, Joe Blanchard, Ronnie Bonvillan, Jay Dugas, Albert Champagne and David Bourque.

The family would like to extend a special “Thank you” to his caregiver, Gina Douet, who was there in his time of need.

Pellerin Funeral Home of St. Martinville was in charge of arrangements.
