Stephensville – Once again, the sheriff of St. Martin Parish, “Ronny” Theriot, and his staff held a lunch for the seniors of Lower St. Martin Parish, which included Belle River, Stephensville and Four-Mile Bayou.

The event was held in the Stephensville Elementary School Gym on Friday, July 16, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Captain Stacey Eddy, with the parish office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, presented a power point presentation with information on special programs available to seniors through the sheriff’s office and parish.

She provided pamphlets on ‘Taking Shelter from the Storm,’ a survival checklist in case of hurricanes, a Louisiana Storm Survival Guide and an emergency preparedness check list. Captain Eddy also showed guests the parish website features at www.stmartinohsep.org, and elaborated on all the special programs and contacts for residents.

Brian Tauzin from the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s office presented information on the parish Operation Golden Shield program, which covered precautions on home, stove, CO and holiday safety. Sheriff Theriot spoke briefly saying ‘the major concern of the parish is to take care of our citizens and provide for their safety.”

Parish President Guy Cormier said the responsibility for parish safety is ultimately his. Parish Councilman Carroll “Coach” Delahoussaye added that he was ‘here’ for the citizens. Clerk of Court Becky Patin announced that she would officially be the new clerk of court in October and that anyone wishing to obtain a property description could do so at the Stephensville water plant on Tower Tank Road.
