Bond agents for the Village of Parks have made a tentative deal to secure a buyer for a $1.2 million bond issue to finance construction of a new village hall. The revenue bond will be repaid with proceeds generated from the Parks water system.
At the May 8 council meeting, bond attorney Brendon Black and financial advisor Deatriz Riggins reported that the deal awaits final approval by the mayor and village legal advisor Robert Chevalier.
Mayor Kevin Kately said architectural plans for the 5,000 sq. ft. structure have been finalized. The new village hall will be located on an unused portion of Cecille Rousseau Poche Memorial Park. Black said funds could be in village accounts as soon as June 1.
In other business, the council authorized Kately to sign a contract for the purchase of new playground equipment. Using funds from the village’s share of parish recreation bond proceeds, five pieces of equipment are to be purchased at a total cost of $74,000.
Between the installation of new baseball park lights, the new playground equipment and the new village hall, Kately said the coming months will be very busy.
Finally, the village will host a benefit at the park at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 18 for Parks Middle School student Sadie Guidry, who has developed a form of cancer.
