Rose was born and raised in Cecilia, graduated from Cecilia High School, and earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Southwest Louisiana Institute (SLI) in Lafayette. She gave her heart to Kirby J. Guidry, also from Cecilia, and they entered into the Sacrament of Marriage at St. Joseph’s Church on May 31, 1959. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Charity Hospital in Lafayette, and later, in the New Orleans area, to support her family while her husband attended and graduated from Loyola University School of Dentistry. She raised her family in Cecilia, Breaux Bridge, and made Lafayette her home where she lived for over 50 years.
Mrs. Kirby J. Guidry, Rose, Teetah, Honey …she answered to them all. She adored her nieces and nephews, treasured her life-long friendships with her cousins, and cherished her relationships with her dear friends. Her hospitality spanned the globe and she knew no strangers.
True to her heritage, her cooking, sense of humor, generosity, wisdom and joie de vivre left you looking forward to the next visit.
People often asked her how she met the challenge of raising six children, and she always answered by spelling out “G-O-D, GOD.” Her signature was followed by the initials “JMJ” as a tribute to Jesus, Mary and Joseph, and she had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother. Her faith and trust in God is her greatest gift to her husband and family. She believed in the power of prayer and shared her faith with everyone by the way she lived. By the grace of God, she made our world beautiful, happy and hopeful.
We would like to thank ALL who have been praying for our mother and our family. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to the physicians, nurses and caregivers who cared for her as if she was their own.
