St. Martinville - A Memorial Mass will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville for Merlin Joseph Champagne, 84, who passed away on Friday, August 13, 2021, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.
The family requests that everyone in attendance please wear a mask and practice social distancing.
Father Jason Vidrine will officiate at the Memorial Mass. Inurnment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Merlin honorably served in the United States Army. He worked for 25 years as a maintenance supervisor at Longfellow Evangeline State Park. Merlin loving spending time outdoors, fishing, hunting and camping. He helped many families during his life, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Cynthia Bernard Champagne; daughters, Donna Bourque (Luke), Debra Talley, Brenda Levert (Lawrence, IV) and Karen Brown (Jimmy); grandchildren, Tiffany Daspit (Kenneth), Eric Talley (Naomi), Jacob Beslin, Lawrence Levert, V, Nicholas Levert, Dustin Brown and Camryn Brown; great-grandchildren, Canon Daspit, Riley Daspit, Alivia Champagne, Emmerson Beslin and Sean Talley; and special fishing friend, Cleveland Talley.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Gabrielle Brown; parents, Euclide and Eunice Champagne; brother, Jessie John Champagne and his wife, Eula Mae Champagne; infant sister, Sylvia Champagne; maternal grandparents, Alexander and Bertha Guidry Savoy; and paternal grandparents, Joe and Alice Albert Champagne.
