Velma Broussard Guidry

Cecilia – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Velma Broussard Guidry, 93, who passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2018, in Arnaudville. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home in Cecilia from 7:30 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. on Thursday. A rosary will be prayed by Deacon Ken Soignier at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday. Fr. Gregory Cormier will officiate at the Funeral Mass. The readers will be Caroline Guidry Albano and Lillian Guidry Tsinikas. The gift bearers will be Kendale Guidry and Jenaye Guidry. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Born October 24, 1924, Velma was a graduate of S.L.I. with a master’s degree in Education. She retired from Cecilia High School after teaching English for 30 years. She loved spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. Velma was most proud that all seven of her grandchildren graduated from college. She enjoyed traveling and cooking for her family. She made the best crawfish etouffée and chicken fricassée ever. Velma will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her brother, Steve Broussard; her children, Dean Guidry Sr. and his wife Tori, Bruce Guidry and his wife Cheryl, and Madeline Guidry Broussard and her husband Jay; her grandchildren, Ty Guidry and his wife Kendale, Trey Guidry and his wife Jenaye, Brice Broussard and his companion Jessi Ezernack, Tiffany Broussard Rider, Caroline Guidry Albano and her husband Al, Lillian Guidry Tsinikas and her husband Andrew, and Dean Guidry Jr.; and her great-grandchildren London Guidry, Rylie Morse, Hunter Guidry, Levi Guidry, Isla Guidry, Aria Rider and Charlie Ann Albano. She was preceded in death by her parents, Septime and Lily Hardy Broussard; her sister Viva Broussard Periou; and her granddaughter’s husband, Adam Rider. Pallbearers will be Ty Guidry, Trey Guidry, Brice Broussard, Dean Guidry Jr., Jay Broussard and Andrew Tsinikas. The family would like to give heartfelt gratitude to Angelina “Ran” Arceneaux for her many years of love and caring for the Guidry family. The family extends thanks to Velma’s doctors, Dr. Kirk Elliott and Dr. Benjamin Degatur, St. Martin Hospital, and the staff at J. Michael Morrow Memorial Nursing Home.
