Bishop J. Douglas Deshotels was the first reader in this year's Jubilee of the Word Bible Marathon which opened at noon last Wednesday, Jan. 19 on the St. Martin de Tours Church Square, and continued non-stop through Sunday afternoon. Volunteers braved freezing temperatures and frigid winds to read passages from the entire Bible for 100 hours over the four-day period. Many of the readers used the elaborate pulpit mounted on Fr. Michael Champagne's customized "Friar Truck."
