Arnaudville – Funeral services were held on Monday, April 25, 2022 at an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Francis Regis Catholic Church for Jeanette O. LaPorte, 86, the former Jeanette Olivier, who passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at J. Michael Morrow Nursing Home in Arnaudville.
Interment was in St. Francis Regis Cemetery in Arnaudville. The Rev. Travis Abadie, pastor of St. Francis Regis Catholic Church, officiated at the services.
Musical selections were provided by Debbie Leblanc, accompanied by Phyllis Simar on the organ. The songs were Amazing Grace, Hail Mary Gentle Woman, How Great Thou Art, I Will Never Forget You, and Jrai La Vour Un Jour.
Mrs. LaPorte, born on October 1, 1935, was a native and lifelong resident of Arnaudville. She married the late Eric Charles LaPorte on February 12, 1955, in St. Francis Regis Catholic Church and celebrated 58 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they grew their family and set a firm foundation to always put God first.
A devout Catholic, she was a parishioner of St. Francis Regis Catholic Church and a member of the Ladies Altar Society.
Jeanette was employed with the St. Landry Parish School Board with 25 years of employment having worked for Arnaudville Elementary as a teacher’s aide.
Upon retirement, she enjoyed playing Pokino with her friends for over forty years, cooking, baking, gardening, visiting family and friends, and in the summer, enjoyed canning figs, pears and vegetables. She also loved the computer, scrolling through Facebook and commenting on all of her grandchildren’s posts, and playing computer games.
Her loving and nurturing heart will be so greatly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include three sons, Kurt G. LaPorte and his wife Harriet, and Glen C. LaPorte and his wife Lori, all of Arnaudville, and Byron LaPorte and his wife Dawn, of Webster, Texas; six grandchildren, Daniel LaPorte and his wife Madeleine, Emily LaPorte Quebedeaux and her husband Hoby, Stefan LaPorte and his wife Haley Krieg LaPorte, Pierce LaPorte and his wife Hannah, Brittany Boyke, and Christopher Boyke and his wife Isabelle; one great-grandson, Easton Jacquneaux; one brother, Roy Olivier of Richardson, Texas; one sister, Lenora Parrish and her husband William “Bill,” of Waco, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 58 years, Eric LaPorte; her parents, Stephen Olivier and the former Ruth Hebert, both natives of Arnaudville; and two brothers, Clarence and Harold Olivier.
A rosary was prayed at 6 a.m. on Sunday in the funeral home.
Visiting hours were observed from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday and continued from 8 a.m. until service time on Monday.
