Covington – Warren Paul “Boo” Miguez Jr. died on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, in Covington, Louisiana at the age of 77.
He was born in St. Martinville, Louisiana on January 25, 1946, and lived in Covington for 42 years. He attended Convent of Mercy Elementary School, St. Martin Junior High, and St. Martinville High School, graduating in 1964. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1968 from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL). He earned a Juris Doctor degree from Tulane University School of Law in 1973.
Warren enlisted in the Army in 1968, serving active-duty October 1968 – September 1970, completing four years active reserves in July 1974. His basic training was at Fort Polk Louisiana with advanced training at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri. Warren served in the Vietnam Conflict from September 1969 – September 1970. He was in the 27th Engineer Battalion attached to the 101st Airborne Division at Eagle Basecamp at the foot of the A Shau Valley in I Corps. His Military Occupational Specialties (MOS) were building roads and bomb disposal with a specialty title Battalion Legal Clerk. His rank was Specialist 6 and he received service ribbons and an Army commendation medal for service.
As a civilian Warren worked as a National Bank Examiner of trust departments with the Comptroller of the Currency. He was a landman/land manager for more than 40 years with various oil and gas companies (Chevron, Florida Exploration Company, Warren Resources, LLOG, Taylor Energy, and ANKOR). He was a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, American Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL), Petroleum Landman Association of New Orleans (PLANO), American Legion, Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, and the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). He was awarded Landman of the Year 2006-2007 by PLANO.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years Susan Ann Ponthier Miguez of Covington; his daughter Jennifer Ann Miguez Batina (spouse Matthew) of Covington; his son Warren Paul “Beau” Miguez III of Covington; and his granddaughter, Abigail “Abby” Grace Batina of Covington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren Paul Miguez Sr. and Odel Marie Berard Miguez of St. Martinville.
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at St. Peter Catholic Church on 125 E 19th Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 at 12 p.m. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until Mass time at the church.
Interment will be at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, 2280 W. 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433.
