Cecilia powers past Collegiate of BR, 54-0

The Cecilia High Bulldogs returned two interceptions for touchdowns, quarterback Diesel Solari completed his only two pass attempts for touchdowns and Ellis Stewart scored three TDs as the Bulldogs powered their way into the playoffs with a 54-0 win over Collegiate of Baton Rouge on Thursday night.

The Bulldogs finished the regular season with a 7-3 record and will travel to Pearl River (5-4) to open the Division II non-select playoffs. (See related story this page.)

Cecilia throttled Collegiate's offense, holding the Dolphins to minus-32 yards on the ground and 22 total yards.

Cecilia didn't need to put up much offense of its own, finishing with 217 yards, including 136 on the ground.

Five players had carries for the Bulldogs, with only Paul Noel getting more than one carry. Noel had two runs for 14 yards. Collin Dore led Cecilia with 49 yards, Layne Champagne had 34 yards, Braylon Calais had 24 yards and Jermaine Davis had 15 yards, each with one rush.

The Dawgs opened the scoring on a 53-yard pass from Solari to Stewart with 10:36 left in the first quarter and Aiden Landry added the point-after kick.

Demarcus Babineaux then returned a pickoff 33 yards for a TD six seconds later and Landry's point-after made it 14-0.

Solari and Stewart connected on a 38-yard pass with 7:10 left in the period  for a 27-0 lead, and Stewart returned a punt 39 yards for a score with 2:54 left   for a 27-0 lead.

Brent Gordon got into the scoring column with a 64-yard pick six at the 5:32 mark of the second quarter for a 34-0 lead and Calais ran it in from 24 yards out for a 41-0 advantage. 

Landry then kicked a 24-yard field goal for a 44-0 lead with 7:10 left in the third quarter.

Champagne's 34-yard scoring run and Landry's 30-yard field goal in the fourth quarter accounted for the final points.
