Emery ‘Poppy’ Marks

Arnaudville - A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m., Monday, December 2, 2024 at St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church honoring the life of Emery “Poppy” Marks, 91, who passed away on November 28, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his family.

A visitation took place at the funeral home in Arnaudville on Sunday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and continued on Monday from 8 a.m. until service time.

A rosary was recited at 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Rev. Travis Abadie officiated at the funeral mass. Reader was Jean Olivier. Gift bearers were Colleen Marks, Jeannemarie Roberts, Brynlee Doucet, Shayna Latiolais, Emeri Angelle and Florence Roberts.

Burial followed at St. John Francis Regis Mausoleum.

Emery was a skilled carpenter, dedicating his career to residential construction. Throughout his life, he built many homes in and around St. Landry and St. Martin Parish, leaving a lasting impact on the community he cherished. He was not only known for his craftsmanship but also for his abundant generosity and kindness.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Emery loved spending time outdoors. He delighted in cutting grass and riding on his golf cart and tractor, finding joy in the simple pleasures of life. His favorite escape was “Camp Flo” in Butte La Rose, where he created lasting memories with family and friends.

Emery was a devoted family man, and the time he spent with his loved ones filled his heart with joy. He cherished Sunday dinners with his family, where laughter and love filled the air, and everyone felt the warmth of his presence.

He is survived by his children, Stephen Marks and Denise M. Angelle (Kenneth); grandchildren, Colleen Marks (Seth Doucet), Kenneth Angelle, II (Brooke), Andre Angelle (Abbie), Jean Angelle (Chelsey) and Jeannemarie A. Roberts (Landon); great-grandchildren, Brynlee Doucet, Shayna Latiolais, Emeri Angelle and Florence Roberts; sister, Mina M. Patin and numerous nieces and nephews. 

He is preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 36 years, Florence Marks; daughter, Celia Marks; parents, Onezime and Jeanne Marks, Sr.; sisters, Dora Marks, Mildred M. Ritchie and Maude M. Champagne; brothers, Onezime Marks, Jr. and Lawrence Marks; in-laws, John and Lorena Marks; brother-in-law, Charles Marks.

Pallbearers were Stephen Marks, Kenneth Angelle II, Andre Angelle, Jean Angelle, Seth Doucet and Landon Roberts.

Honorary pallbearers were Kenneth Angelle, Carl Marks, Levan Doucet and David Champagne.

The family would like to thank J. Michael Morrow Memorial Nursing home and staff for taking such great care of our Poppy.
