St. Martin teams poised for playoffs

St. Martinville – St. Martinville and Cecilia earned girls’ basketball playoff bids and all three St. Martin Parish boys’ basketball teams were poised to make playoff road appearances heading into the final week of the regular season. St. Martinville finished the girls’ basketball regular season with a 17-6 record and earned the 12th seed in the Division II Non-Select Playoffs.

The Lady Tigers were set to play No. 21 seed Pearl River (16-12) to open the playoffs.

The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday at St. Martinville Senior High.

Cecilia finished 1212 and finished as the No. 25 seed in Division II Non-Select. The Lady Bulldogs were to travel to No. 8 seed Bastrop (18-8) in the first round of the playoffs.

First-round games must be played by Thursday.

Breaux Bridge was 37th in the final power ratings and in the seeding for the playoffs. The top 28 teams earned bids in Division II.

Boys

Cecilia (11-11) had the highest power rating of the three St. Martin Parish teams as of Monday at No. 21 in Non-Select Division II.

St. Martinville (1415) was 26th in Non-Select Division II and Breaux Bridge (11-12) was 27th.

If those seeds were to hold, Cecilia would travel to face the No. 12 seed, currently Lakeshore (16-8); St. Martinville would be on the road against the No. 7 team, currently Bossier (15-10); and Breaux Bridge would travel to the No. 6 seed, currently Franklin Parish (15-8), in the first round of the Division II Non-Select playoffs.

The St. Martinville Tigers blasted ARCA 77-49 in a District 5-3A boys’ basketball game this past week.

The Tigers led 35-22 at halftime and expanded upon that lead in the second half, outscoring ARCA 42-27 after intermission.

Each team hit eight 3-pointers, with Makharee Narcisse draining three treys and scoring 22 points and Kristian Batiste adding two 3-pointers and 10 points total for the Tigers.

Kervin Fontenette added 9 points, including a 3-point shot.

Jordan Stabile hit six 3-pointers for ARCA and led all scorers with 24 points. No other player scored more than 7 for the Eagles.

SMSH smashed Kaplan 70-32 on Friday in another district game.

Fourteen players scored for the tigers, with only Tyren Sion getting into double figures with 10 points.

Makharee Narcisse added 8 points, Lyle Potier and Kervin Fontenette had 7 each and Ray Narcisse, Skylar Frelix and Jakorey Blanchard had 6 apiece.

St. Martinville hit five 3-point shots on the night.

Kevin Small led the Pirates with 10 points and Javonte Mouton added 8.
