New water meter installation will begin in Cypress Island

Mayor Kevin Kately updated council members on various projects at the February meeting of the Village Council.

Kately started by announcing that the new water meters, which were approved last month, would most likely be placed in the Cypress Island area first.

“We’re just going to work our way through the area and look at things in about six months to a year and see how the income is and then do another one thousand in another area,” Kately said. “One of the good things will be that we can read the new meters from within a mile of the road. That will take some of the work off of the meter reader from getting out of the vehicle to read the meters.”

The council then voted to approve the resolution to buy new digital meters to start the replacement project.

The council also voted to allow $500,000 to be invested in the Louisiana Asset Management Program (LAMP) to, as Kately said, “See how it goes.”

The Mayor also spent time urging people to attend the Library Board meeting on Feb. 18 to support the construction of a new library in Parks.

“It’s something that needs to be done because the library we have is falling apart,” Kately said. “So we need to spread the word around and get people out to the meeting because the library is very, very important to the community.”

There being no other business before the council, the meeting was adjourned.
