Baja St. Martin

I never thought to look at a logo on the truck which parked practically in my backroom most of Tuesday, Feb. 11, but I did notice the license plate was from Wisconsin. The four workers surely were not but they were all nice guys. I assume Entergy hired their company to trim tree branches away from the power lines.

They had a full day’s job just at my house. And they were really thorough. They used mats so as not to mess up my yard, backed their big truck right up to my back door and extended the boom over the roof. The guy up there did a terrific job cutting away vines and branches that I’d never have been able to get. Another man climbed a tree in my neighbor’s yard and trimmed the branches in her cypress tree that were touching the lines. I think the four men must have worked for 4 or 5 hours and they worked the whole time. So whatever company it was, kudos to them. Previous companies have not been as efficient.

It wasn’t the time nor place to harangue these guys about moving the power lines and poles to the road but it is something of a pet peeve of mine and my neighbors. Actually, the newest neighbor on my south paid a considerable amount to have three new power poles installed and placed to go round his home site. That action caused my power line to tighten dangerously and it took me months to get Entergy to come out and put some slack in my line. It’s all ok now but it would be so much easier and cheaper for the power poles which now run along the bayou to be placed at the edge of the road or on the levee as has been done closer to Morgan City. There were/are no residents there to pay for a move.

My neighbors and I were told once that our power poles could be moved to the roadside – maybe – but we’d have to pay for that ourselves and it wasn’t cheap. Most of us just decided to leave things alone, so the poles go right over our yards and houses.

It is warm today, very warm but getting windy. I missed my levee walk but knew it would be uncomfortable up there. I do enjoy getting together with friends and their dogs but opted to stay at the landing this time. As long as there aren’t people there. My dog is friendly but not everybody likes dogs, especially big, black ones.

Now, the next morning, I have the heat on and it’s cold again. This weather is crazy. According to my phone weather, it will be in the 80s tomorrow again. I have an electric mattress pad and I woke in the night and turned it on. When I get up I sit on an electric throw while I read and drink coffee. I’m such a wimp!

Stephensville Elementary and Pierre Part Elementary both will be having Mardi Gras parades on Feb. 27 which means I’ll have a problem attending both. The parades are so cute. I do love to watch them.

It seems like everybody, every organization I am involved in is having some event the last week in Feb. Food for Seniors is Feb. 27 as far as I know. I have a retired teacher’s lunch in there. And a banquet in another parish. Gets a bit busy.

My cat has taken to exploring the tops of closets, window ledges, et al, lately. Not sure what’s the impetus. A stray cat has been yowling outside every morning about 4 a.m. which mean the dog barks and rushes out the doggie door. Maybe my cat who seems not interested in the commotion just gets excited in the house. Cats do make awfully noises.
