Breaux Bridge splits games in tournament

The Breaux Bridge Tigers improved to 4-21 on the season with two five-inning wins in the Beau Chene baseball tournament this past weekend, beating Berchman’s Academy 13-3 and Comeaux 110.

BBHS blasted Berchman’s with three runs in the second inning, three more in the third, five in the fourth and two in the fifth, collecting six hits in all.

Caynon Ardoin had two hits, two RBIs and two runs for the Tigers. Peyton Gonzalez added a hit, an RBI and a run, Ben Melancon had a double with two RBIs and a run and Christian Camacho had a hit and scored twice.

Cullen Laseter pitched three shutout, hitless innings for the win, allowing no walks and striking out five. Camacho allowed three runs on three hits with a walk and three strikeouts in two relief innings.

The Tigers scored 11 runs on two hits with nine walks against Comeaux.

Kyson Rebert had a hit with an RBI and a run and Peyton Gonzalez had a hit with two RBIs and two runs for Breaux Bridge.

Caynon Ardoin pitched three innings for the win, allowing one hit with one walk and four strikeouts. Kamin Babin threw one inning in relief, allowing one hit and one walk with two strikeouts, and Ben Ellender gave up no hits and struck out two in an inning on the hill.

Breaux Bridge fell to Rayne 12-7 this past Tuesday in a non-district baseball game after committing six errors and allowing 10 unearned runs. Bryce Melancon took the loss after allowing 11 runs, only one earned, on four hits and three walks. He also struck out three batters in three innings. Kaleb Theriot allowed one earned run on two hits and one walk while striking out four in three innings.

Peyton Gonzalez tripled and drove in two runs and Sam Armentor doubled and drove in two runs for the Tigers. Cullen Laseter added a hit and an RBI.

St. Martinville beat Lafayette Renaissance Charter Academy 11-4 on Tuesday, but lost a pair of games in the Beau Chene Tournament, falling to Rayne 3-1 and to Lacassine 11-4.

Against LRCA, the Tigers had four hits with Logan Bienvenu, Branson Chiasson, Rylin Savoy and Kaden Gary each getting one base knock.

Connor Rome drove in three runs for the Tigers, while Bienvenu and Chiasson each had an RBI and scored twice.

Kaden Gary pitched 5 2/3 innings for the win, allowing no runs on one hit with three walks and 11 strikeouts. Savoy allowed four unearned runs on three walks with a strikeout in 1 1/3 innings.

In the Beau Chene tourney, Rayne and SMSH had six hits apiece, but the Tigers committed three errors and the Wolves did not commit any errors.

Rylin Savoy doubled and singled with an RBI for SMSH. Logan Bienvenu, Jayton Walker and Ashlon Smith also had hits.

Dixon Aymond suffered the loss, scattering five hits and allowing three runs, two of them earned, with a walk and four strikeouts in six innings.

Cecilia beat Westminster Christian 3-2 on Feb. 17 but lost three games in the Episcopal High Tournament in Baton Rouge later in the week, falling to the host school 5-0, then to Parkview Baptist 10-0 and to St. Michael the Archangel 8-4.

Softball

The St. Martinville Lady Tigers lost their softball season opener on Tuesday, Feb. 18, to Carencro, falling 18-3 in four innings.

The Lady Bears scored four runs in the top of the first inning, four in the second, three in the third and seven in the fourth. SMSH had single runs in each of the first three innings.

Laila Funk went 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored to pace the Lady Tigers. Addie Bergeron also went 2-for-2 and Reagan Bernard, Jayda Faucheaux and Shea Bernard each had a hit.

Funk took the loss, allowing five hits and 12 runs, 11 of them earned, walking 14 and striking out four.

Breaux Bridge lost its opener to Eunice on Tuesday, 15-1, but split a pair of games in Livonia’s tournament, beating False River 15-0 before falling to Zachary 16-4.

Against Eunice, the Lady Tigers allowed nine runs in the third inning. Eunice also scored three in the first and three in the fourth.

Brandi Williams went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Gracie Hebert went 3-for-3 to lead BBHS. Rylie Boudreaux, Zoey Simoneaux, Nyah Albert and Laylah Albert each had a hit.

Zoey Simoneaux took the loss after allowing two hits and 12 earned runs with five walks and four strikeouts in three innings.

In the win over False River, Corrine Thibodeaux gave up no hits and no runs, walking one and striking out three in three innings pitched to earn the win.

Zoey Simoneaux homered and drove in two runs, scoring twice, for the Lady Tigers. Nyah Albert went 3-for-3 with a double, four RBIs and two runs. Rylie Boudreaux went 2-for-2 and scored three runs. Five other players also collected base hits.

Zachary pounded out 19 hits to beat BBHS in the tournament. Simoneaux took the loss, allowing 15 hits and 11 earned runs with one walk in 4 1/3 innings.

The Lady Tigers collected nine hits in the loss.

Gracie Hebert went 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI. Brandi Williams went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run and Calie Chiasson and Layla Hebert each had a hit and an RBI.

Cecilia lost its first three games of the season, falling to Acadiana 15-10 on Feb. 18, then dropping a doubleheader at Catholic High of Pointe Coupee, 10-3 and 9-2.

Against Acadiana, Cecilia scored three runs in the first and third innings and four in the fifth, but allowed Acadiana to score three in the first, five in the second, one in the fourth, four in the fifth and two in the seventh.

Acadiana outhit CHS 18-10.

The Lady Bulldogs had three doubles in their 10 hits, with Alexis Dejean doubling and drive in two runs, Hannah Bordelon getting three hits and three RBIs, Ahni Bertrand getting three hits with a double and two RBIs, and Bella Clark getting two hits with a double.

Kenlee Etienne suffered the loss, allowing 13 runs on 14 hits and five walks in 4 2/3 innings.

In the 9-2 loss to Catholic-PC, Cecilia gave up two four-run innings to fall.

Nikki DeVillier homered and drove in two runs for Cecilia. Ahni Bertrand Addie Berry also had hits.

Kenlee Etienne allowed nine runs on nine hits with two walks and three strikeouts in six innings.
