St. Martinville – Cecilia, Breaux Bridge and St. Martinville Senior High all earned Division II Non-Select boys’ basketball playoff bids today when the pairings were announced by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association.
Cecilia (12-12) had the highest seeding of the local teams at No. 21 and travels to face No. 12 Lakeshore (16-8) in the opening round.
Breaux Bridge (1213) was the No. 25 seed and will travel to No. 8 Bastrop (17-6) to open the playoffs.
St. Martinville (1518) is the No. 27 seed and travels to No. 6 Bossier (17-10).
The Cecilia High Bulldogs beat St. Martinville 71-36 in a nondistrict boys’ basketball game on Friday.
The Bulldogs bullied SMSH from the start, gaining a 21-9 advantage after one quarter and leading 37-17 at halftime, then outscoring the Tigers 34-19 in the second half.
Ellis Stewart led the Bulldogs with 15 points, while Malik Joseph had 14, Jermaine Davis added 12 and Conner Helaire had 10. Helaire was 2-for-2 at the free throw line, Cecilia’s only foul shots on the night.
Tyren Sion led St. Martinville with 8 points. Ray Narcisse had 7 and Kristian Batiste added 6.
Each team hit five 3-pointers but Cecilia made 27 shots inside the arc and SMSH had only nine.
On Wednesday, St. Martinville was outscored 16-5 in the fourth quarter to drop a 58-53 road non-district game to Catholic High of New Iberia.
SMSH led after each of the first three quarters — 17-16 after one, 31-27 at halftime and 48-42 after three quarters.
Kristian Batiste led St. Martinville with 17 points and Tyren Sion had 10.
Tristan Lewis led a balanced CHS attack with 15 points. Jaiden Mitchell had 12 points, Chris Green added 11 and Kayton Mitchell had 10.
The Panthers hit 10 3-pointers on the night with Lewis and Green contributing three each and Layton and Jaiden Mitchell each knocking down two. CHS also hit eight of 10 free throws.
SMSH had four 3-pointers with Batiste burying two and Tyren Sion Kervin Fontenette adding one each. The Tigers went 11-for-15 (73 percent) at the foul line.
St. Martinville beat IDEA Bridge School 7536 this past Tuesday, one day after falling to Franklin 46-39 in a non-district boys’ basketball game.
St. Martinville led Baton Rouge’s IDEA Bridge 21-7 after one period and 36-14 at halftime on the way to the 39-point win.
Ten players scored for SMSH, led by Kervin Fontenette with 11 points and Landon Potier and Jorey Blanchard with 10 each. Jakorey Blanchard and Zyrian Johnson had 9 each and Kristian Batiste had 8 for the Tigers.
Kemandre Fleming led the Capitals with 18 points.
Against Franklin, the Tigers trailed 16-10 after one quarter and 2116 at halftime. The Hornets outscored SMSH 25-23 in the second half.
Kervin Fontenette led St. Martinville with 10 points and Makharee Narcisse had 7.
Jeremiah Gray had 12 points to lead Franklin.
