Parks moving on new village hall

Parks moving on new village hall
The Village of Parks will soon get the new village hall building officials have worked toward for many years. At its Aug.15 meeting, the village council approved architect Glenn Angelle’s recommendation to award the contract to the lowest responsible bidder, JC Construction LLC of Broussard. Angelle told the council the base bid amount, $892,000, is lower than the initially projected cost. The council approved two optional features, a longer-lasting concrete parking lot rather than asphalt, at an additional cost of $21,000, and a free-standing sign, at $7,000, bringing the total to $920,000. A municipal bond was secured earlier this year to finance the construction. The building will be located on a vacant tract of village-owned property adjacent to Cecile Rousseau Poche Memorial Park. Also approved for installation at the park is a veteran’s memorial. The memorial, to be financed by private donations as well as village funds, will consist of a semi-circular concrete slab and three by five foot wall which will display plaques recognizing veterans. The plaques will be purchased by veterans or their families. A wrought iron fence will surround the memorial and there will be two benches on the concrete slab, which will be shaded by an arc of trees to be planted outside the slab. Mayor Kevin Kately said John Narcisse, of the Breaux Bridge Veterans of Foreign Wars, is organizing efforts to secure donations for the installation. In other business, Kately said several more automatic flush valves have been purchased and are now being added to the water system’s more remote water lines. Investing in the devices, he added, is much less expensive than the cost of hiring the additional employee and purchasing another vehicle, which would be needed otherwise.
