Ohio Oil Company Getting Ready To Drill Well - It is reported that the Ohio Oil Co, of Illinois is getting ready to commence drilling for oil at Cypress Island in the next few days. The interest in this new field is increasing, and some lease have been secured lately at high prices.
The Messenger entered upon its 40th year, we desire to take this occasion to extend our thanks and appreciation for the patronage accorded us during these forty years, and as we now have the equipment to do all kind of printing, we solicit a continuation of the patronage given us in the past.

St. Martinville City Attorney Paul deMahy administered the oath of office to O’Neil Tyler, who assumed the duties of St Martinville police chief.
The Federal Disaster Assistance Administration presented the City of St. Martinville with a check for $36,000 for damages sustained during Hurricane Carmen in September 1974. The check represented an advance on a total of $48,464 approved for St. Martinville by the FDAA.

Rotarian Joseph “Sing” Bonin and Miss Emily Anne Broussard were presented as king and queen of the 54th annual Rotary Club Mardi Gras Ball. They portrayed Czar Peter the Great of Russia and Queen Victoria of England.
Michael S. Ebow ruled over the annual Newcomers Club Mardi Gras Parade Sunday in St. Martinville as King Gabriel XXXVIII while Cyntrelle Reneé Hill served as Miss Newcomer 2000.

The St. Martin Council on Aging received a $5,000 grant from United Way to help fund its Meals on Wheels program.
St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church members who were recipients of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. awards were Rena P. Edmond, Alma H. Alexander, Leo Pitte, Laura L Pitte and Ricky Gary. The award was given for outstanding service to the church and community.
