A traditional Lenten play party for all ages will take place at Longfellow- Evangeline State Historic Site on Saturday, March 15 beginning at 2:00 pm, during a special Table chantante singing French table.
In this Cajun and Creole tradition, all ages gather for danses rondes or round dancing to French folksongs. A caller gives directions and sings a French folk song. Dancers walk and turn and can sing along if they wish. Round dances are aptly named since dancers often hold hands while walking in a circle.
Beginners in dance, in singing and in French are welcome. The dances are fun yet simple and gentle, making them accessible to a range of ages and mobility.
