Parish preparing for upcoming slate of road repair work for 2025

– The St. Martin Parish government is ready to move forward with road repair projects as soon as the current round of projects wraps up, Parish President Pete Delcambre told the parish council at its regular meeting this past Wednesday.

Parish council members submitted roads in their district in need of repair, and Delcambre said the list was whittled down to some of the worst roads in the parish. As money becomes available those repair projects will be approved by the council and sent to engineers to begin the process.

“We are in the process of completing all of the road projects, the last one being the Doyle Melancon extension,” Delcambre said. “That is in the process of being completed.

“Once that has completed, and everything else has been completed, we can then take a look at what kind of additional retainage money would be available to be put on this agenda of road projects.”

A $4.5 million budget was prepared for road work this year. The roads on the list that the administration pared down from the original listing of roads in each council district would cost about $3.5 million, Delcambre said.

That list excludes Section 28 Road, which is being considered for state capital outlay funds.

Delcambre said he would like to see $250,00-$300,000 added to the road budget for work in Stephensville, as the parish president is trying to get a FEMA project repurposed for road work there. The parish money would be used as matching funds if the FEMA project can be repurposed into a million- dollar road project, or used for repairs if the
