Parks - The Village Council voted to allow Mayor Kevin Kately to enter into negotiations to donate the land next to city hall for the construction of a new parish library. The announcement was made at the monthly meeting on March 11.
“The lawyers will get together, communicate and get things where they need to be,” Kately said. “Now we are going to move forward and get it done.
“This is something that the community has needed for many years and now it’s going to get done.”
The parish president library director, two parish council members and one library board member were in atttendance.
On a more serious note, Mayor Kately reported that customers are not putting backflow preventers on the water meters which is causing an issue with the state.
“That is something that the customer has to do,” Kately said. “That prevents problems down the line.
“We’ve sent certified letters to these customers and they still have not taken care of their business.
“So now the state is telling us to cut them off. And that is what we are going to do because we now have to be in compliance with state regulations regarding water supply.
“I’m not sure when we are going to start cutting them off, but it will start soon.”
Katley explained that the backflow preventers will prevent water from backing into the system which can cause problems for other people as well.

Another issue with Parks Water has to do with the construction of the new well.
Kately told the council that he is pushing to get the well dug now.
“We have the money to dig the new well, so I am pushing to get the well in the ground and then we can worry about the building and the chlorinating room after,” Kately said.
“We need to get the well in now and get that started because the longer we wait, the more expensive it is going to be to do everything at one time.
“At least if we get the well in now, we can help relieve some of the pressure on the system.”
