BB baseball gets off to 4-0 start in district play

The Breaux Bridge High baseball team is off to a 4-0 start in District 5-4A play after sweeping a pair of games from Livonia this past week.

The Tigers beat Livonia 8-2 at home on Tuesday, then traveled to Livonia and claimed a 15-2 road win on Thursday.

In Tuesday’s win, Livonia jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning but BBHS rallied with a run in the second, three in the fourth, one in the fifth and three in the sixth.

Caynon Ardoin doubled and drove in two runs for the Tigers. Benjamin Ellender had two hits including a double and drove in a run and Bryce Melancon had two hits.

Ardoin also went seven innings on the mound for the win, allowing two hits and two runs with three walks and 10 strikeouts.

On Thursday, the Tigers fell behind 5-0 after one inning, then led 7-5 after the second only to see the Wildcats score four runs in the third to lead 9-7. A seven-run fifth inning gave BBHS the lead for good.

Benjamin Ellender led the Tigers at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Kyson Rebert also had a pair of hits and two RBIs and Evan Theriot had two hits with an RBI.

Peyton Gonzalez had a hit with an RBI, Sam Armentor drove in three runs, Caynon Ardoin had two hits, Bryce Melancon had a hit and an RBI.

Sam Armentor allowed only two hits and two runs over five innings for the win. He walked two batters and struck out two.

BBHS blasted Berchmans Academy 15-0 in four innings on Saturday in a non-district game.

The Tigers scored 12 runs in the fourth to end the game.

Sam Armentor had a triple. Peyton Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Chase Broussard doubled and drove in two runs, Caynon Ardoin had two hits including a double with three RBIs and Kyson Rebert drove in two runs for Breaux Bridge.

Bryce Melancon pitched four nearly perfect innings for the win, allowing only one walk and no hits.

St. Martinville opened its District 5-3A slate with a 14-4 win over Abbeville on March 18.

Connor Rome went 2-for-2 with four RBIs for the Tigers. Logan Bienvenu had two hits and an RBI and Jayton Walker had a hit and an RBI. Rylin Savoy, Kamryn LeBlanc, Ashlon Smith and Dixon Aymond also drove in runs.

Logan Bienvenu pitched four innings for the win, scattering six hits and striking out seven while walking only one.

SMSH beat Opelousas 15-0 in three innings on Wednesday in a non-district game.

Rylin Savoy went 4-for-4 for SMSH. Logan Bienvenu went 3-for-4 with an RBI, Kamryn LeBlanc was 2-for-3 with an RBI, Ashlon Smith went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Dixon Aymond had a hit and two RBIs.

Rylin Savoy pitched four innings of two-hit shutout ball for the win. He struck out seven and did not walk a batter.

Cecilia split a pair of District 5-4A games with Beau Chene, beating the Gators 12-2 on Tuesday before losing 6-4 on Thursday.
