The Bridge blasts Opelousas twice, improves to 6-0 in league play

The Breaux Bridge High Tigers crushed Opelousas 15-0 and 18-0 in a pair of runrule baseball games this past week to improve to 6-0 in District 5-4A.

The Tigers got a nearperfect five innings on the mound from Caynon Ardoin and Kaleb Theriot to beat Opelousas 15-0 in a game shortened to five innings on Tuesday.

Ardoin pitched two innings of no-hit ball with only one walk, striking out six batters. Theriot pitched the final three innings flawlessly, striking out three batters and walking none to finish the combined no-hit shutout.

BBHS needed only five hits to score 15 runs, with Bryce Melancon going 1-for-1 with two RBIs and Cullen Laseter and Charlie Frederick each adding a hit and an RBI. Sam Armentor and Christian Camacho also had hits.

Opelousas pitchers walked 10 batters and hit two batters with pitches, and OHS committed six errors.

On Thursday, Breaux Bridge scored 16 runs in the first inning of a game shortened to three innings by the 15-run rule, getting four hits and 11 bases on balls. OHS pitchers hit seven batters with pitches.

Peyton Gonzalez, Caynon Ardoin and Kamin Babin each had a hit and an RBI for the Tigers and Cullen Laseter also had a hit. Chase Broussard, Christian Camacho and Kyson Rebert drove in runs.

Benjamin Ellender allowed one hit in two innings to earn the win, striking out five and walking one. Christian Camacho allowed one hit and struck out one batter in one inning.

BBHS lost a non-district game to Opelousas Catholic 16-0 on March 24. The Tigers were nohit in the four-inning game. Cullen Laseter pitched 1 2/3 innings to take the loss.

St. Martinville lost a pair of District 5-3A games that were shortened by the mercy rules.

SMSH lost to Erath 15-0 on March 24, getting no-hit over four innings.

Erath got eight hits and 11 runs off SMSH pitcher Logan Bienvenu, who also walked four batters and struck out one in three innings.

On Thursday, SMSH lost to Acadiana Renaissance Charter Academy 10-0 in five innings, again getting no-hit in the process.

Dixon Aymond took the loss, allowing 10 runs on seven hits with four walks and six strikeouts.

Softball

The Breaux Bridge Lady Tigers earned softball wins over Midland (11-0 on March 24), Highland Baptist (16-5 on March 26) and Erath (8-4 on Thursday) this past week.

Zoey Simoneaux pitched five shutout innings in the win over Midland, scattering three hits and striking out seven while walking just three batters.

Simoneaux also went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored. Nyah Albert went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs for the Lady Tigers. Corrine Thibodeaux went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Carleigh Gant went 2-for-2 with an RBI. Brandi Williams added three hits, Laiylah Albert had a hit and an RBI and Krysten Torres and Gabrielle Scott each had a hit.

Simoneaux pitched five innings for the win over Highland Baptist on Wednesday, giving up seven hits and four runs with one walk and six strikeouts.

Brandi Williams went 4-for-5 with an RBI and three runs for BBHS. Calie Chiasson went 5-for-5 with two doubles and four RBIs, Simoneaux was 3-for-3 with an RBI, Nyah Albert went 4-for-5 with three runs, Laiylah Albert went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Gracie Hebert had a hit and an RBI, Carleigh Gant doubled and drove in two runs, and Hailey Derouen tripled and drove in a run while scoring two.

On Thursday, Breaux Bridge only had one more hit than Erath (1312), but outscored the Lady Bobcats 4-2 over the first three innings and 4-2 again over the next three to earn the 8-4 win.

Zoey Simoneaux went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs and Gracie Hebert went 2-for-2 with a double and a run.

Rylie Boudreaux went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, Gracie Hebert went 2-for-2 with a double and a run, Hailey Derouen had a hit and an RBI, Krysten Torres went 2-for-3 with two runs, Laiylah Albert went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Hailey Derouen went 1-for-2 with an RBI and Nyah Albert went 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Simoneaux pitched seven innings for the win, allowing 12 hits and four runs with one walk and four strikeouts.

St. Martinville fell to Delcambre 17-2 in five innings on March 25 and 15-11 to Abbeville in a District 5-3A game on Thursday.

Cecilia beat Livonia 15-5 in a District 5-4A game on March 25.
