April 4, 1925

The weather continued cold and dry, retarding all crops. Planters asked for rain. Nearly all the rice farmers had to irrigate their planted rice to make it grow. Several farmers report they had to replant some corn due to the damage caused by insects.

A meeting was held and was attended by many citizens, and it was decided to organize a baseball club to be composed of local players. The club, under the direction of the American Legion, was managed by Dr. D. A.Fournet.

Work commenced on the Catholic Church at Parks, The church will be a nice building, and sufficiently large for the town.

April 2, 1975

Arlene Wiltz, a Cecilia Sr. High School student, placed first in the State Senior - Clerk Typist Contest and represented Louisiana in the national contest in Miami, Florida.

Leah Barron of Breaux Bridge, was selected as one of 20 students in the nation to attend the National Symposium for talented and gifted children.

Grocery prices in St. Martin Parish included: T-Bone Steak - $1.49 lb.; 4 rolls Charnin Tissue 69¢; Viva Jumbo Towels - 49¢; Domino Sugar -

5lbs/$1.69.

April 5, 2000

Brandi Lee Hebert of Breaux Bridge was crowned 2000 Jr. Miss St. Martin during Beta Rho Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi’s annual pageant held in St. Martinville. Runners-up were Lacey Thibodeaux of Cecilia, 1st alternate; and Katie Joubert of St. Martinville, 2nd alternate.

State Department of Natural Resources and local officials gathered to sign a contract that to begin a six-month study on impacts of eco-tourism expected to result from the 15- $338 million Atchafalaya Master Plan.

Andrea Theriot of St. Martinville was crowned St. Martin Farm Bureau Queen. Alyce Ransonet of St. Martinville was 1st runner-up.

April 1, 2015

The Bayou Teche was added to the National Water Trails System, a first for Louisiana. Designation as a National Water Trail by the U .S. Department of the Interior placed the Teche in an elite group of rivers across the nation and was expected to increase recreational Tourism for the 15 communities and four parishes along the 135-mile river.

St. Martinville placed first in the Cleanest City Contest for District 3 and automatically became part of the statewide contest.
