Mayor Melinda Mitchell plans to host a “Par-Tea!” at the Duchamp Opera House, 200 S. Main St. on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 11 a.m.
The event is for girls ages 6 through 17 and their mothers. “I want to motivate girls and young women,” Mitchell said, “I want them to accept that they are special, that they are somebody, and that they are royalty.”
In addition to the tea, attendees will be treated to a movie and a tour of the historic district and museums. “I’m saying to these girls: there is only one you – live life to the fullest.” The mayor added, “And I want them to know that dreams can become a reality.”
Tickets are $5 per girl, $10 for moms, and are available at City Hall. Call Shekina or Danielle at 394-2230 for more information.
