A Lafayette man was arrested Monday night following a fatal crash with a pedestrian along Louisiana Highway 353 just north of Rookery Road.
Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a single-vehicle fatality crash involving a pedestrian shortly before 8 p.m. on Monday.
The crash claimed the life of 44-year-old Brad Madere of St. Martinville.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Madere was walking on La. 353 near the southbound fog line.
At the same time, a 2019 RAM 1500 driven by 58-year-old Troy Alfred of Lafayette was traveling south on La. 353.
Pedestrian
For reasons still under investigation, Madere entered the southbound lane as the RAM approached.
Despite the driver taking evasive action to avoid a collision, Madere was struck.
Madere suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Alfred was properly restrained and uninjured during the crash.
Alfred provided a breath sample that revealed a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit and was processed into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on the charges of LA RS 14:98 — Driving While Impaired (1st Offense) and LA RS 32:361.1 — Obstructed View Through Windshield/ Windows.
A standard toxicology sample was also collected from Madere and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
