Feature presentations at the Bienvenu Theatre in St. Martinville included “The Fools Awakening” with Harrison Ford and Evid Bennet; and “Pleasure Mad”.
The Ohio Oil Company of Chicago received several car loads of pipes, machinery and other materials necessary to commence drilling at Cypress Island.
A warming was sounded by D. W. E. Hinds, entomologist, La. State University Extension Division, that unless protection is provided for the cotton crop that it is very likely to suffer serious weevil damage this season.

Preliminary results from a special census showed the Breaux Bridge population was 5,565, up 623 people since the 1970 census.
St. Martin Sheriff Charles J. Fuselier was elected president of the Louisiana Sheriffs for Better Law Enforcement.
Elected as officers of the St. Martinville Jaycees were Dallas Sonnier, president; George “Butch” McHugh, vice president; Nathan Cormier, 2nd vice president; Paul deMahy, secretary; Dennis LeBlanc, treasurer; and Allen Theriot and Keith Judice, non-officer directors.
Glenn Delaune, representing St. Joseph of Parks Knights of Columbus Council 4927 was the state winner in the KC Talent Contest. Delaune performed a rendition of a flamenco guitar solo.

Leon “T-Bit” Bourque retired as fire chief of the Evangeline Volunteer Fire Department after 22 years of service.
Some Cox Cable subscribers paid at least $5 more for services, but received an additional 22 channels.
Charlene Hill, clerk of the Village of Parks, was elected public relations officer of the Louisiana Municipal Clerks Association.
St. Martinville Mayor Eric Martin received word that the city received a second-place award in the divisional “Cleanest City” contest, losing out to Patterson.

Bayou Teche became the country’s 18th official “Water Trail” at a ceremony held at Parc des Ponts de Pont Breaux.
Kyle Frederick, a junior from Breaux Bridge attending the Louisiana school for Match Science and the Arts qualified for the state literary rally in French II.
School Superintendent Dr. Lotttie Beebe was expected to recommend the conversion of the old Breaux Bridge Elementary campus into a college and career readiness center at the next school board meeting.
