Cade – Charges against a Washington, La., man were upgraded to second degree murder after one of the victims of a March 22 shooting died of his injuries.
Deputies with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call regarding a shooting in the 1600 block of Smede Highway at around 10:20 p.m. on Saturday, March 22. Depu ties learned after an initial investigation upon arrival that a verbal alt ercation occurred between several people prior to the suspect shooting into the group before fleeing the scene. The suspect was later identified as Michael Jordan Zachary Jr., 19, of Washington, La.
Three victims were transported to local hospitals. One of the victims, Javeuin Williams, 20, of Breaux Bridge, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Shortly after fleeing the scene, Zachary was involved in a traffic crash with another vehicle at the intersection of Smede Hwy. and La. Hwy. 182.
He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. On March 23, upon his release from the hospital, he was charged with one count of LA R.S. 40:1785-Possession or dealing in unregistered or illegally transferred weapons and booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center.

Charges
Following further investigation into the incident, investigators with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested on Thursday and charged Zachary (who was already incarcerated in the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on the above charge) as follows:
• LA. R.S.14:30.1Second Degree Murder (1 count).
