
Early voting for the April 28 municipal runoff election in St. Martinville opens this Saturday, April 14, reminds St. Martin Registrar of Voters Patricia T. Guidry.
The ballot includes the mayor’s race pitting incumbent Thomas Nelson against challenger Melinda “Mel” Narcisse Mitchell and the runoff for the District 4 council seat between Juma A. Johnson and Janise Anthony.
Voters may cast their ballots at the Registrar’s Office in the Courthouse Annex in St. Martinville.
The office will be open daily (except Sunday, April 15) from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Saturday, April 21.
Nelson, seeking his fourth term, led a four candidate field in the March 24 primary but fell short of having a majority of the vote, collecting 46 percent (928) of the ballots cast while Mitchell ran second with 34 percent (701).
The District 4 runoff has Johnson facing Anthony. Johnson led the three person primary with 186 votes (46 percent) while Anthony trailed with 119 (29 percent).
Council members re-elected in the first primary included Mike Fuselier of District 1, Craig Prosper of District 2 and Dennis Paul Williams of District 3. Councilman Edmond Joseph of District 5 was unopposed for his first full term.
