Coach James ‘Jimmy’ Waguespack

Cecilia – Coach James “Jimmy” Waguespack, 76, of Cecilia, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 8, 2019, surrounded by his wife and children. A United States Veteran, Jimmy was honorably discharged after joining the Army National Guard in high school; serving two active tours of duty in Fort Knox, Kentucky and Fort Polk, Louisiana, and serving in the National Guard for several years. Coach Jimmy, inducted into the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s Hall of Fame this past April, was a dedicated educator and coach who worked tirelessly throughout his 46-year career to inspire in others his passion and love for high school football. He loved fishing, talking about sports and politics, and spending time with his family. He was unwavering in his beliefs and causes, never complained, and pursued his passions with the tenacity and fight of a two-time undefeated state champion. Jimmy will be forever remembered by his wife, Monica Becnel Waguespack, and his five children and their families, Deborah Rodrigue (Clark), grandsons Jacob and Matthew (Lesley) and great-grandson, Rhett; Angela Todd (Mark), grandchildren Kaitlyn and Ethan; Randall Waguespack (Patricia), grandsons Simon and Nicholas; Gregory Waguespack (Andria) and grandson Nathan; and Allison Fanguy (Ted) and granddaughters Olivia and Elleanor. He was preceded in death by his parents, Laurent and Clemence Waguespack; sister, Claribel Loupe (Leroy); and brother, Laurent (L.J.) Waguespack Jr. Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2019, at Pellerin Funeral Home in Cecilia, with a Rosary at 6 p.m.. A second visitation was held from 8 to 11 a.m. on Friday, July 13, 2019, followed by funeral at St. Philip Catholic Church in Vacherie, La. Burial immediately followed at St. Philip Catholic Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Matthew, Jacob, Simon, Nicholas, Ethan, and Lowell (Pee-Wee) Guidry. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Fisher House Foundation, 12300 Twinbrook Parkway #410, Rockville, MD 20852 (engage.fisherhouse.org), which supports military and veteran families, or to Shae Stelly Memorial Scholarship Fund (Checks made payable to Impact Acadiana), 2172 Main Hwy, Arnaudville, LA 70512.
