Bids opened for next I-10 project between BB & Henderson

Bids for another major I-10 upgrade in St. Martin Parish were opened recently by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. The project, with a budget of $87.7 million, was awarded to Gilchrist Construction of Jeanerette and calls for the widening of I-10 between Breaux Bridge and Henderson (from LA 328/Rees St./Anse Broussard Hwy to LA 347/Grand Point Hwy) to six lanes. The contract provides for replacing concrete on the existing four lanes of I-10 and adding a lane in each direction. Included is construction of a two-lane overpass for Melvin Dupuis Road. This will be the third and final phase of widening I-10 from Lafayette east to the elevated Atchafalaya Basin Bridge and could begin in 2020 as work on the other two sections of I-10 (Lafayette to Breaux Bridge and Henderson exit to the Basin Bridge) finishes. The project is being funded with federal dollars.
