COVID positives impact schools

With a large number of faculty and staff members testing positive for the COVID virus, several parish schools have switched to on-line classes while the wearing of masks has been ordered at all schools except Stephensville Elementary.
Supt. Allen Blanchard Jr. said Tuesday that on site instruction at Breaux Bridge High School was suspended beginning last Thursday and continued through Tuesday. Virtual classes were also ordered for Breaux Bridge Elementary from Monday through today (Wednesday).
“We had close to 50 percent of the faculty and staff at Breaux Bridge Elementary test positive,” says Blanchard.
There has also been a rash of positive tests among students but Blanchard says it is not as widespread as among staff members.
“It appears the Breaux Bridge area has been hit a bit harder,” he added.
Regarding the mask mandate, Blanchard says the order is in effect for a 10-day period and the situation will be re-evaluated then.
Under new guidelines, individual testing positive must quarantine for five days rather than 10.
Blanchard said he is hopeful that the wave of positive tests has crested and that parish schools will be able to return to normal operations in the near future.
