Election of officers on board's agenda

The election of officers heads up the agenda of the St. Martin School Board's first meeting of the new year.
The regular monthly meeting was set to begin immediately following the 4 p.m. session of the board's Finance Committee last Wednesday.
Board policy calls for the election of a president, vice president and secretary at the first meeting of the calendar year.
Richard Potier of District 7 has served as president for the past year, with District 1 representative Steve Fuselier holding the vice president's office. Traditionally, the superintendent serves as secretary.
The board president then appoints member to chair the board's various committees — education, finance, maintenance and transportation.
The board will also receive its annual financial audit report for the 2020-21 fiscal year prepared by Champagne & Co.
Items on the Finance Committee's agenda include 1) Amendment of the current long term substitute salary pay scale; 2) Consider action on the staff's recommendation for the purchase of busses using ESSER funds; 3) Consider addition of an associate data systems analyst to the board's central staff; and 4) Consider allowing the staff to proceed with the bid/quote process for several bond projects.
In addition to acting on the Finance Committe's recommendations, the agenda for the regular board meeting also includes:
• Consider a resolution requesting the parish's legislative delegation to keep all of Iberia and St. Marting Parishes in the same State Senate District 22 when adopting a redistricting plan to comply with the 2020 Census.
•Consider Head Start Policy Council recommendations regarding vaccine policy and new hires.
•Consider amending the job description of the sales tax administrator from a supervisor position to a manager/ accountant position.
•In executive (secret) session 1) Discuss desegregation litigation; 2) Consider action regarding the lawsuit filed by SMILE over the ownership of the Head Start facility at the corner of Berard and Martin Luther King Jr. Streets in St. Martinville.
•At the request of board member Floyd Knott discuss the appeal of issues relating to the desegregation litigation.
•At the request of member Mark Hebert discuss Gov. John Bel Edwards’ initiative to vaccinate all students.
