Man arrested after burned body found

St. Martinville – Investigators from the St. Martinville Police Department arrested a local man after human and animal remains were found in the debris of a burning building.
Police responded to reports of an explosion at 1205 South Main Street around 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 17. They arrived to find a small outbuilding in flames.
After the fire was extinguished, the remains of a woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, and a dog were found in the rubble. Investigators suspect probable homicide.
Police Chief Ricky Martin said a tentative identification of the woman has been made, but he is waiting for confirmation from the Coroner’s Office. She is not believed to have been a resident at the address. 
Randal J. Romero, 56, who lives at that address, was arrested and booked into the St. Martin Correctional Center. He is charged with second degree homicide, unlawful disposal of human remains, aggravated cruelty to animals and obstruction of justice.
