SMP building permits strong in July, August

Residential construction activity remained fairly steady in rural St. Martin Parish during July and August, while several major projects boosted commercial activity.

In Breaux Bridge there was a sharp drop in residential permits following the May-June boom while the Crawfish Capital reported only one significant commercial permit.

New home starts in the unincorporated areas nearly doubled in July-August compared to May-June, jumping from 20 valued at $5.9 million to 36 new homes valued at $9.6 million.

Purchased home permits were down slightly from 72 in May-June to 67 in July-August with a value of $10.99 million.

Activity continues at a high pace in the installation of solar panels and generators, with 18 permits issued in July-August valued at $436,948.

The value of commercial permits issued in rural St. Martin jumped from less than $200,000 in May-June to $1.56 million in July-August, primarily due to three projects.

Leading the list of  nine commercial permits were a new building at Arrow Aviation on Smede Hwy (Cade area) with a value of $829,508; a meat market/butcher shop planned by Louisiana Blues on Coteau Rodaire Hwy between Arnaudville and Cecilia valued at $340,000; and a fitness center being built by Fitness Fulfillment on Doyle Melancon Road near Breaux Bridge at a cost of $259,150.

 

Breaux Bridge

New home permits issued in Breaux Bridge dropped from 24 in May-June to just six in July-August, resulting in the total value of residential activity falling from $6.8 million to $2 million.

Breaux Bridge did see one significant commercial development, with RPM Pizza Midwest on Rees Street planning a $$403,000 renovation project.

There was no significant activity reported in St. Martinville during June and July.
