lia – A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 4, 2021, at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Lucy Mae B. Champagne , 91, who passed away on Friday, January 1, 2021, at her residence surrounded by her family. Visiting hours were observed at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Sunday and continued on Monday from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. A rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. on Sunday by Deacon Ken Soignier. Rev. Gregory Cormier officiated at the Funeral Mass. Interment followed at St. Joseph Mausoleum in lia. Readers were Jaime’ Champagne Berg and Eva Champagne. Lucy was the owner and operator of Champagne’s Grocery in Grand Anse for over 30 years. She was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in lia. Lucy was the best caretaker and was known for putting others before herself. She enjoyed watching Hallmark and sports in her spare time. Lucy was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her sons, Jerry David Champagne (Eva) and Brian Anthony Champagne (Christine); daughter, Janelle Champagne Melancon (Kenneth “Skin”); grandchildren, Craig David Champagne, Michelle Champagne Taylor, Jaimé Champagne Berg, Kasey Jude Melancon, Tyler Joseph Champagne and Devin Michael Melancon; and great-grandchildren, Brody Berg, Avlynn Mae Berg, Tate Michael Champagne, Brayden Champagne, Mayci Taylor and Carson Taylor. She was preceded in death by her son, Nathan Patrick Champagne; husband, Roland Antoine Champagne; parents, Andre and Adelle Thibodeaux Boudreaux; sisters, Inez Menard and Bernice Hebert; and brother, Donne Dieu Boudreaux. Pallbearers were Kasey Jude Melancon, Tyler Joseph Champagne, Devin Michael Melancon, Danny Paul Champagne, David Vaughn Berg, Jr. and Kenneth “Skin” Melancon. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors and nursing staff on the 6th floor of University Hospital in Lafayette, as well as the caregivers provided by Golden Rule Care Providers. The family cannot express enough gratitude and appreciation for the caregivers who provided exceptional care and companionship over the past few years, namely, Evelyn Allemond, Bernice Gautreaux, Priscilla Tolliver and Cynthia Shupe.
